Religion and philosophy are to be preserved distinct. We are not to introduce divine revelations into philosophy, nor philosophical opinions into religion. Human beings must be known to be loved; but Divine beings must be loved to be known. It costs God nothing, so far as we know, to create nice things: but to convert rebellious wills cost Him crucifixion. Whether we like it or not, God intends to give us what we need, not what we now think we want. In the same way the sun never grows weary of shining, nor a stream of flowing, it is God's nature to keep His promises. Therefore, go immediately to His throne and say, 'Do as You promised.' Love is an image of God, and not a lifeless image, but the living essence of the divine nature which beams full of all goodness.
