I found Maude dead in her bed one morning. She had the flu but she died of sepsis. It was around the time of the winter vomiting bug and we took her to hospital twice but her flu symptoms masked the sepsis and she went undiagnosed.

Sepsis is a difficult thing to diagnose and one's default really should be to rule it out first. Sepsis should be at the top of everyone's list.
