We know the difference of ambition driving you to run for something and feeling a calling.

One thing I can bring to this as second lady is making people aware of what art therapy is and how it works. It's not arts and crafts.

I just want to make people aware of what art therapy is.

Most of the appointments that God has set for me today aren't on my schedule. They're going to be surprises. They're going to be times when someone calls me and I'm late for something but I want to take the time to be there for those God appointments.

I have great appreciation for military spouses and it grows every time I visit another base.

I mean, people tell me all the time they like my hair long.

It certainly would never, ever, ever, be my intention for anyone to feel judged by me. Definitely not. But I'm just a person who believes in the Bible, so it shouldn't be right for someone to attack me for my beliefs.

I think that if you have someone who has a certain belief, that doesn't mean that they're necessarily judging you. For example, there are people who have certain dietary restrictions because of their faith. I don't feel like they're judging me if I eat that food.

I think there are people out there who feel like they know me so when they hear me say something, maybe it reassures them.

So, for me, I just think if a woman is looking at whether or not to vote for Donald Trump, one of the things she has to look at is the jobs. She has to look at the fact that this is someone who cares about women reaching their full potential, about women being empowered. To me, that's a very strong woman's issue.

If you're struggling, you're probably not going to be able to help anybody... so get help for yourself first.

There's no stigma to saying, 'This is really hard.'

Now that I have grown children we all make that effort to keep the family kind of protected and private.

Even as an art teacher and someone very involved in the arts, I never knew what art therapy even was.

It's OK to ask for help.

People don't recognize me. Or, if they do, they leave me alone.

Well you know Mike said to me once, 'It's not about giving God your day, it's about giving your life to God every day,' and that's something I just believe firmly in. And so I think honestly for me, it's important to spend time in the Word each day.

I don't really see my role as policy maker or policy changer.

I taught second grade for years before I became an art teacher, and I would always encourage the parents to get some kind of pet that their children had to take care of, because I think it teaches responsibility. And caring for an animal is just a good experience for kids.

We'll always have some kind of pet.

We're just pet people.

For us now, with the kids gone, we like the unconditional love you get from a pet.

Find out what works for you, whether it's exercise, gardening, prayer, cooking, reading or any other activity that engages you and your family in positive acclivities and plan these activities into your day.

One of the things we say... is, 'Do what you know helps you.' And so for me, that might be painting. For other people, it might be gardening. It might be baking or cooking. It might be reading.
